We all remember year one Brennan School workbook diagrams of the human body; doing pendulum readings using the diagrams; and deciphering the pendulum symbols and their meaning and psychological indications. I needed to use the workbook to remind me how these symbols and psychological indications relate to my clients’ complaints and how they might lead me to the best possible healing response. In other words, this was my way of “connecting the dots” -understanding the human energy field and how this relates to a client’s state.

For a long distance healing I recently went back to basics using the pendulum readings before and after a healing. My client is a Healing Touch Practitioner and is familiar with energy work, not necessarily Brennan Healing Science. When we scheduled a date and time to do the session I sent her my introductory letter that included an explanation of Brennan Healing Science, how I work with a client, a consent form, a health history form, and an explanation of how to prepare for a healing session. I asked Kim (a fictitious name) to email me the forms prior to the session so I could review them. As it turned out, I received the consent form but not her health history. I received this form after the session.

I did a brief phone consultation to explain the process for her long distance healing session. Specifically I explained where I would be placing my hands on her body and that I would be in my healing room and would energetically have her lying on my massage table. I asked her to lie on her bed or couch, wherever she was more comfortable. I listened to her verbalize her physical, mental, and emotional concerns and explained that energy follows intention, and if she had an intention, what might it be? She said she wanted to experience relief from physical pain, clearing of negativity in her relationship with her sister, and improved mental clarity. I gave her some time to get settled on her bed and let her know that she could contact me if she chose to share her experience afterward. I invited her to email or call me if she had any questions or would like further energy work in the future.

I moved into my healing room and was led to place a white fleece blanket on my table. I traced an outline of a body onto the blanket with my finger and was guided to do pendulum readings front and back from the outline and record them on paper. Most of Kim’s pendulum readings (simulated over the body outlined on the blanket) rotated clockwise, indicating these chakras were taking in energy. Other pendulum readings indicated blocked energy of the back of her third chakra, which is an indicator of one’s will towards health and the ability to do self-care. The front of her heart chakra also indicated blockage. This chakra relates to feelings of love for one’s self and others as well as being open to life. The front and back of Kim’s fifth chakra indicated blocked energy as well. The throat chakra located in the front of the throat is connected with receiving, assimilating, and speaking one’s Truth. The back of the fifth chakra at the base of the neck is linked with the sense of self in society and profession. I recalled Kim
asking for improved mental clarity, healing her relationship with her sister, and help to relieve the stress she was feeling at her job as well as her need for relief of physical pain.

The pendulum readings seemed to match with what was going on in Kim’s life as described in our phone conversation. Not only was she moving out of her sister’s house and feeling animosity from her sister, she was also being treated for Lyme’s disease; the medication she was taking was causing her to experience mental fogginess and muscle pain. Kim also shared that she had been a nurse for many years and currently worked in the intensive care unit of a large hospital. She said she needed to “shift her outlook on nursing and the current health care system into a more positive light.”

I did a long distance chelation in “allow” energy holding mental clarity and unconditional love (for myself as well as for Kim). I focused on grounding myself and Kim as she was in the midst of moving and also under a lot of stress at work. I also concentrated on allowing deep energetic contact, holding mental clarity to allow the energy to follow our mutual planned intention, and at the same time, recognizing the universal need for contact, love, compassion, and forgiveness.

I completed the chelation and was guided to do post healing pendulum readings. Most of her chakras were open, which implied Kim had taken in energy, relaxed, and opened energetically. The chakras that measured closed prior to the healing all converted to being open except the front and back of her throat chakra and the back of her sacral center.

Relying on the basics of pendulum readings to form my initial assessment, I was pleased to have my assessments validated when I finally received Kim’s health history.
I learned that Kim’s neck had been fused in 2016, which may account for the pendulum reading that indicated blockage in the throat and posterior neck area; she reported a history of sexual trauma, an emergency C-section, which may explain why the pendulum reading showed blockage at the back of the sacral chakra. Kim also reported she grew up with a verbally abusive father. This may explain why the front of Kim’s throat chakra indicated blockage. This information prompted me to look for affirmations that could help improve energy flow in those areas.

An affirmation for the throat chakra is, “I speak up for myself and what I have to say has value.” or “I speak with confidence and my voice is heard.” An affirmation for the sacral chakra is “I move toward a time when I am totally happy and fulfilled.” or “I am prepared to honor my body and feel good about my sexuality.”

When I received post-healing feedback from Kim she said that she found herself “bouncing between Alpha and Theta states” and at one point “felt encapsulated in a white light bubble” which she enjoyed. This may indicate what she felt when I did the seventh level closing in which I filled her field with light. She did not mention her pain but said she had an “excellent energy level that lasted all day.”
I explained to Kim that I had worked on grounding and a pendulum reading showed most of her chakras were open except the front and back of her neck and the back of her sacral center. I gave her the affirmations to work on that could begin to open her fifth and second chakras. I encouraged her to drink more liquids and to allow herself to rest when needed. I also invited her to contact me for energy healing when she would like to experience additional balancing.

While in the Brennan School, our distance learning modules would ask us to be aware of what was going on within us as we were giving a healing. As I listened to Kim, my heart felt such compassion and sadness. I could personally relate to her sense of despair. It was all too familiar to me, as a nurse working in a health care system I perceived as dysfunctional, feeling burned out and completely frustrated. My relationship with my sister had been strained and in need of attention. As a graduate of the Brennan School of Healing, I thought I had it all together and could help others now that I was a healer. I had the realization as I listened to Kim that the Universe had sent her to me so I could see my own images and beliefs and improve my own thoughts and attitude. In other words heal myself of past frustration, grief, and despair while assisting my clients with these endeavors.

As healers we may measure and perceive energy and it may be consistent with the client’s history or condition, but it is vital to remember they are not their condition or disease, nor are they the sum of their experiences. We are Spirit expressing in human form. It is crucial as healers for us to discern beyond the physical body and work with the consciousness of Spirit in and through all. Barbara Brennan called it revealing Essence.

Mark Nepo author of The Book of Awakening tells us that it helps to think of spiritual discernment as facing ourselves by uncovering the meaning in our own hard experiences, much the same way a sculptor chisels away the excess stone, so that we drop away all that we are not, thus finding the soul waiting to be revealed. This is true healing.
