Melanie has survived–and thrived–through several recurrences of cancer. In fact, she has lived with familial cancer and the genetic predisposition all her life. What Melanie has done with this monumental burden and fear is taken that energy and transformed it into hope, into knowledge, into practice.

Finding out that you or a client has cancer, or any illness, begs the question, how do we, as energy healers, learn to be flexible in our beliefs, and discerning in our practices to truly explore and integrate all possibilities for healing? After years of questioning, herself, her doctors, even her healing modality, Melanie formulated and refined her Thriving Through Cancer Method (TTC). This method is supportive of working in partnership with a healing professional. The TTC method involves multi-dimensional self-tracking, right down to the very energetic consciousness of the presenting complaint.

Melanie provides many tools to help the practitioner and/or client explore his or her experiences and work with them. Such things as personal life experience, the important qualities you would like to have in a practitioner or client, how to be discerning, and how to put together physical, emotional, mental and spiritual practices are talked about. Worksheets summarize this information with helpful questions you can use to create a baseline while exploring and staying present to what’s here now.

What I really resonate with, and what Melanie told me she’d like to emphasize, is the need for this TTC method as a way to integrate the enormous amount of information we have at our fingertips, which, at the same time, is so difficult to wade through that it becomes overwhelming. This creates a situation where it is difficult to stay grounded and present and so we find ourselves scattered, disconnected and constantly multi-tasking.

We need the information allopathic medicine provides as well as the internal guidance we intuit when we remain present, aware and not in defense. Being able to do this requires assessing our own needs and communicating with members of the health team. Melanie says, “This feeling, this way of being, this way of connecting with yourself, tracking moment by moment how your feeling—is my passion.” This skill is what Melanie brings to the table in her book and the TTC Method.
